Published inventories on the funds:
R–847 the People's commissariat of education of ASSR NP, 1923-1941.
In the inventory are introduced 738 records from # 1 to # 737. Information about the documents of this inventory it is possible to find on the site of "archives of Russia".
R–1831 the Collection of documents on history and culture 1764-1941.

Since the documents, included in this inventory, differed in terms of enormous time scattering 1764-1941 - and by sufficiently diverse thematic, it was necessary to consider the principle of the construction of inventory, which would arrange both the archivist and users. Compilers attempted to group materials according to the subject sign, although they realized, which it will be impossible to conduct this line consecutively for them completely. Nevertheless, in the inventory it is possible to conditionally mark the following divisions: common questions and the questions, which are concerned life and way of life of colonists; documents on the history of population; statistical evidence also of different kind lists; documents on the history of churches and being concerned religious cults; documents on the history of public education; documents on the history of culture, people creation, literature; materials on the regional study; leaflet, newspaper, manuscripts; the work of the individual authors and information about them.

For convenience in work with the inventory and expanding the circle of the potential researchers of history and culture of the Germans of Volga Region both in Russia and in Germany and other countries, the inventory is comprised in two languages - Russian and German. It is supplied with the indicator of names, with geographical and subject indexes, and also with list of reductions. Compilers hope that the inventory published will give not only new pulse for future studies on the history and cultures of the Germans of Volga Region, but also it will substantially facilitate the work of researchers in this direction.

Archival funds: Unfortunately, not all documents according to the Germans of Volga Region complete, not all are plotted in the specific time frame. The incomplete safety of documents has a whole series both of objective and subjective reasons. At the same time Engels archive is the keeper of the largest file of documents on the German problem.

Here documents about the migration of the German population: from the colony into the colony, into the Crimea, Kazakhstan (Semipalatinsk and Akmolinsk regions), into America at the end of the 19th and beginning of the before the First World War, into Siberia. For example, the list of settlers of Rozenheim, which moved to America in 1911- beginning of 1912, or affirmed by the verdicts of Krasnoyar, Ust' -Karaman, Frezental', Enders of village gatherings the lists of those, who desire to leave into America and others.

Funds of village gatherings and village district administrations are irreplaceable sources for the composition of genealogy. They store the lists, most valuable of which – Revision list (population census) after 1834, 1850 and 1857. So, in the fund of Baltzersk village district administration Revision lists of 1850 of Bal'tsera itself, and also the villages, entering the rural district – Grimm, Karamyshevka and Ust' -Zolixa. Not are less important for genealogical studies family lists of Bal'tser, Dengof, Ekaterinenshtadt, Krasny Yar, Graf, Norka, Varenburg and other.

In the archive the funds of 45 Evangelical- Lutheran and 21 Roman Catholic churches were preserved. (On the basis of the foreign sources, of about 75%, the arrived in the Volga settlers they were Lutherans). And although, as has already been spoken above, documents not complete, the carried out analysis showed that the archive stores 419 books about the generation, the baptism, betrothal and death of citizens. Major portion of them was preserved since 1800. The personal books, which have value which is not smaller, than metric, supplement well them, and they are used by archivists with the performance of the demands of genealogical nature.

The documents of churches store also information from the history of settlings, formation of arrivals, building and reconstruction of churches, the work of schools with them, libraries. The special interest cause the chronicles, in which the dates of the building of wooden are indicated, and is later stone buildings, the style of building, means, to which it was produced building, lists of donors, required information about the clergymen. Some chroniclers reported about the life of settlers, about the weather cataclysms, hurricanes, floods, droughts, etc.

The most complete documents of the Evangelical-Lutheran churches of villages: Bal'tser for the years 1804-1918, Dengof for the years 1815-1905, Ekaterinenshtadt (Marksshtadt) in 1763- 1916, Norka for the years 1833-1915, Varenburg for the years 1794-1916, into arrival of which entered Tarlyk and Skatovka; Anton for the years 1764-1892, Ust' -Zolixa (Messer) for the years 1791-1912. The part of the books with the records about the generation, marriages and death of these churches is located in Saratov archive, since were they transmitted, as it was already noted, by regional archive of Civil Registry Office after expiration 75- of summer period of storage without taking into account the law of archives about the indivisibility of archive funds and now is in prospect work on their return to the archive of Engels for completing of funds, reunification of documents, which will be convenient for the work of archivist, researchers, and the main thing - for the citizens, who are rotated into the archive on questions of genealogy.

The funds for archive up to 1917 tell us, also, about the development of industry, the production of famous cloth "sarpinka" (it were preserved album with the models of cloth), the development of mill economy. Brungardt (Mariental'), a whole series of the mills of colonists: Al’t, Vormsbekher, Sabel'fel'd... It is pleasant that the documents of archive do not lie by dead load.
